OUR PURPOSE
The purpose of the Christian Service Commission is to enable the IC parish communuty, through outreach, peace and justice, and pastoral care, to put into practice the social teaching of the church. The Commission creates and promotes--both at the local level and in the broader community of city, state, nation, and world--ministries which respond to human needs.
DUTIES

Educate the parish community on the church tradition on social justice issues.

Identify social issues and human needs in the parish and community, develop a broad Christian Service action plan to respond to these needs, and assign responsibility for specific responses to the various IC ministries.

Respond to human needs through a combination of direct service to individuals, outreach to those in need, pastoral care, advocacy, and empowerment.

Initiate and promote the harmonious coordination of parish Christian Service efforts with other IC parish ministries and organizations.

Encourage and facilitate coordination of efforts with similar ministries in other Catholic churches, in other church denominations, and in the broader community.

Establish and maintain liaison with the Joliet diocesan offices of Peace and Social Justice Ministry, Family Ministry, Divine Worship and Respect Life, and raise parishioners' awareness of peace and justice issues on local, national, and international levels.

Promote diocesan-wide Christian Service endeavors.
